New Things Ahead.

20170513_145310

Hello everyone, I’ve not posted for a while, so thought I’d let you in on why. I am taking a break from this blog “The Infinite One” to concentrate on my fiction work. Fiction is a passion of mine, it’s just been something that I have always been afraid of sharing with people. In spite of my lacking confidence I have decided that it is time to at least give it a shot.

I have several fiction projects in progress, including short stories, competitions and a novel. I also have a new blog in which I share my progress and some of my work for all to read.

You can find me here:  https://lavockins.wordpress.com/

I’ve not abandoned The Infinite One by any means, I will return occasionally with more interesting articles, it just won’t be as often as before.

Alien Abduction

ufo_2387810b

Since the late 1950s, there have been countless worldwide accounts of alien abduction. Each case seems to vary slightly, from the type of Alien, to the situation and time of the abduction, but all have many similarities. Some key similarities found in the majority of abduction claims include hours of missing time, gaps in memory, mysterious injuries, scars and/or implants, disorientation, reproductive issues, and post-traumatic stress symptoms. Many cases are dismissed as psychological trauma’s such as mental health issues and in some cases, sleep paralysis. But could these abductions be real? If so, why are they happening?

One of the main theories as to why aliens may be abducting us is experimentation. Many reported abductions include recollection of being restrained to an object that can best be described as an operating table. The aliens, normally greys, surround the abductee, wielding strange tools. Mechanical arms and other instruments have also been reported, emerging from the ceiling above them. But why would they want to experiment on us? My best guess at this would be discovery. Perhaps the aliens are simply curious scientists, attempting to discover more about our species. Or, perhaps, as depicted by the popular short story War of the Worlds, they are planning an attack and wish to know thy enemy.

Here are some truly terrifying, real-life accounts, of alien abduction.

Jim and Jack Weiner.
Brothers Jim and Jack Weiner, and their art school classmates Chuck Rack and Charlie Foltz, were abducted during a fishing trip at the Allagash Waterway in Maine. The men didn’t have any luck fishing in the daytime, so they decided to take a canoe out into the water for some late night fishing.

While floating through the water in complete darkness, the group noticed a glowing light reflecting from the top of the trees. The light began to change colours before hovering over their canoe and engulfing the entire group. Before they knew it, they were back at the campground sitting in front of a burned out fire. They all knew that something strange had happened to them that night and decided to get help to remember exactly. After going through hypnotherapy, each man retold the exact same story. They recounted strange beings examining them aboard a spaceship.

Travis Walton.

One of the most recognisable alien abduction stories comes from Travis Walton. On November 6, 1975, 22-year-old Walton and his crew of loggers were finishing another day of work. While they were driving home, they spotted a silvery disc floating in the sky.

The driver stopped the car and Walton jumped out and ran toward the object. When the spacecraft began to move, Walton stepped back toward the car, but it was a little too late. A blue-green beam shot out and “struck” Walton, and he disappeared. Walton’s crew fled the area, and one of his co-workers called the police from a nearby town. When the police arrived at the scene, Walton was nowhere to be found. A search party looked for him for five days, until he suddenly reappeared looking tired and emaciated. He told investigators he had been abducted by the craft and spent the last five days inside the UFO where medical experiments were performed on his body.
A while later, renewed interest in his alleged abduction prompted Walton and his co-workers to take a polygraph test in which they were all shown to be truthful in recounting the experience. In 1978, Walton published a book about his experience, entitled The Walton Experience. In 1993, his story was turned into the film Fire in the Sky.

Betty and Barney Hill.

Betty and Barney Hill, a married couple living in New Hampshire, claimed they witnessed a UFO while driving back from a trip to Niagara Falls. They followed the movement of the craft for some time; eventually, it descended sharply, causing Barney to stop the car in the middle of the highway. The couple claims to have seen creatures peering at them through the craft’s windows. The craft then lifted over their vehicle, and the Hills reported hearing a buzzing sound.

The Hills’ consciousness went blurry, and when they eventually regained awareness, they’d travelled 35 miles south with no memory of having done so. They arrived home and realised their watches were broken. Betty reported the incident to the Pease Air Force Base. She began having dreams about the incident; later, both Barney and Betty would be interviewed at length while under hypnosis. The story became national news after a story was published in the Boston Traveler in 1965; a book about their story, called The Interrupted Journey was published in 1987.

John Salter.

Not all experiences with alien abduction have been negative though, here’s an example of this.

John Salter, Jr. and his son John III were travelling down the highway when they noticed a UFO in the sky. The story then gets a little strange because neither of them had a vivid recollection of the events that took place. They do remember seeing a group of half human, half alien children who they quickly bonded with. The creatures made them feel at ease and protected them during the alleged hour-long abduction.

The men were subjected to medical examinations, and following the experience, they both reported their overall health had improved. John Jr., who had a permanent forehead scar before the incident took place, claims the scar completely healed and disappeared after the abduction.

Conclusion.

I find that the most interesting thing about all of these accounts is the people that they come from. None of these people would have anything to gain from telling of their encounter, in fact, in many cases, quite the opposite. In my mind, this makes the majority of abduction accounts very plausible. In addition to this, many abductees can only recall the event with the help of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy has been scientifically proven, so surely this means that the events that its patients recall are real? If not, then perhaps abduction is some neurological phenomena that we do not yet understand.

For me though, alien abduction is highly plausible and truly terrifying. The idea that these beings can take us at any time that they choose, is a scary one. Maybe they are just curious. Maybe they are trying to find out something specific. Maybe they are trying to aid us in some unseen way. One day we may find out, but for now, we can only speculate.

NASA Announcement and Mysterious Disappearance.

thXFSMLKBS

NASA announcement: Possible evidence that Saturn’s moon, Enceladus, could host alien life.

Some exciting news was announced by NASA last week, one of Saturn’s moons, known as Enceladus, could support life due to a newly discovered presence of hydrogen. This suggests that Enceladus, a small icy moon located a billion miles farther from the sun than Earth, has almost all of the ingredients required for habitability. So Extra-terrestrial life may be closer to us than originally thought!

The findings are the result of 12 years of investigation by the Cassini probe. Using a mass spectrometer, the Cassini was able to detect an abundance of hydrogen molecules in water plumes rising from fractures in Enceladus’ icy surface. Saturn’s sixth-largest moon is an ice-encased world with an ocean beneath. The researchers believe that the hydrogen originated from a hydrothermal reaction between the moon’s ocean and its rocky core.

Life, as we know it, requires three main ingredients to originate, exist, evolve or function- liquid water, an energy source for metabolism and the right chemical ingredients including oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulphur.

Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate at Headquarters in Washington, stated: “This is the closest we’ve come, so far, to identifying a place with some of the ingredients needed for a habitable environment. We have not found evidence of the presence of microbial life in the ocean of Enceladus, but the discovery of hydrogen gas and the evidence for ongoing hydrothermal activity offer a tantalizing suggestion that habitable conditions could exist beneath the moon’s icy crust”.

So maybe this isn’t the Alien life that we have all been hoping for, but it’s a start. Knowing that there is life out there, even bacteria, is a step in the right direction.

Missing student feared to have been abducted by aliens.

Bruno Borges, aged 24, reportedly went missing from his family home on March 27th. The psychology student’s disappearance has sparked international interest after a bizarre video of his bedroom was leaked online. The footage shows that he had transformed his room into a kind of shrine, covering his walls with a coded writing and installing a huge statue of philosopher Giordano Bruno. Giordano Bruno was one of the first thinkers to predict the existence of extraterrestrial life, some theorise that Bruno Borges was trying to complete his work.

Among the items in his room were 14 bound manuscripts, written in the same code that was found on the walls. He had told his mother, Denise Borges, that writing these 14 books would “change mankind in a good way”.

14-books-left-behind-by-Bruno-Borgas-893097

Bruno was last seen by his family when they had a meal in their town of Rio Branco, in the state of Acre, before his parents went away travelling. When his parents returned almost a month later, they opened up his room to find he had removed all his furniture and covered the walls with the writing, symbols and pictures. According to Bruno’s older sister Gabriela, Bruno had kept his room locked for 24 days while his parents were out of town.

A self portrait of Borges was also discovered hanging in the room, it depicts him with an alien, that appears to be welcoming, or even comforting, Borges. This portrait, along with other strange findings, has led many to believe that he has been either been abducted by aliens or accepted by them.

Bruno-Borges-890012

This is indeed a very strange case, with many theories being speculated. Has Bruno Borges been abducted by aliens? Has he discovered something not yet fathomed? Or has he just ran away? One thing is for sure, I hope that he returns, or is returned, safely to his family.

As always, thank you for reading. These were just a few interesting things that I came across recently, that I thought I’d share with you all. There will be a full article posted later this week on the mysterious and terrifying subject of Alien abductions. Have a great day 😊

Do Parallel Universes exist?

a38

The premise of parallel universes has always fascinated me. The idea of there being more than one of me is, I’m sure, a terrifying thought for many. Parallel universes are a subject that has been pondered over and theorised by many renowned scientists, yet is for now, unproven. The theory itself poses numerous possibilities, and in the event of its existence, could solve many of sciences greatest mysteries. The subject has been used for many works of fiction, including popular TV shows and movies. There have been many incidents and reports to back up the theory, we will look into some of these, but first, there are two versions of this same theory.

The many worlds theory.

One evening in 1954, in a student hall at Princeton University, Hugh Everett was drinking sherry with his friends when he came up with the idea that our choices and actions cause the universe to constantly split. These universes are all related to ours, except with slight changes due to the different outcomes. For example, our wars have had different outcomes than the ones we know, species that are extinct in our universe have evolved and adapted in others, in other universes we humans may have become extinct. These are but a few of the many possibilities, think about it, the list is endless, and we can only imagine the potential outcomes. For example, if we come to a crossroads, there are five possibilities of what we could do: turn left, turn right, go straight on, go backwards, or stay still. In this theory, all of those outcomes happen, but in different universes, that are created at the moment of the choice. Another simpler example might be, if we were asked to go into town. At that moment of the choice, two universes are created, in one you go, in the other you don’t.

String theory.

The second of these theories is string theory, originated by the Japanese-American physicist Michio Kaku. Like the Many-Worlds theory, string theory demonstrates that parallel universes exist. According to the theory, our own universe is like a bubble that exists alongside similar parallel universes.  Unlike the Many-Worlds theory, string theory supposes that these universes can come into contact with one another. String theory says that gravity can flow between these parallel universes. When these universes interact, a Big Bang like the one that created our universe occurs. In this theory, the parallel universes exist as a constant, moving through time alongside our own. This is where this theory differs from the second.

Clues of parallel universes existing.

Deja vu and Alter vu.

Deja vu and Alter vu are two of the several strange phenomena of the mind. Deja vu is the uncanny sensation that you’ve experienced an event before. Alter vu is a term used to describe when someone remembers an event, or even their entire life, differently. Both experiences have potential neurological and memory based explanations, but is it possible that Deja vus are memories from other versions of ourselves in other universes, or that Alter vus are truly memories from our own altered realities?

Dreams.

While the mechanism for dreaming is fairly understood, by this I mean that they tend to occur during REM sleep, we still don’t know their true purpose, if there is one. Are they a glimpse into the unconscious mind or a way for our brains to sort out information? Or could they possibly be windows into a parallel universe and another version of ourselves?

The man from Taured.

A strange man who arrived in Tokyo in 1954 with a passport from a country that didn’t exist, called Taured. Japanese customs officials detained the man, but his passport was not a fake: it had the recognised stamps, was issued by the country of Taured, and even included Japanese stamps from a previous visit. The man swore that Taured was a European country that had existed for 1,000 years, and he also held other papers, such as bank statements, with which the country’s name was on them. After several hours, customs officials eventually placed the man in a hotel, with security nearby to ensure that he did not leave his room, while they checked things out. The next morning, he was gone. No trace. A manhunt ensued, but to no avail, he had simply vanished.

Lerina Garcia.

Lerina Garcia woke up one day in a world, our world, that did not belong to her. According to the story, as her day progressed she continued to notice “small incongruities”, little things that were just off. As her day progressed further, she started to notice that her whole life was missing. Here is some of her recorded account of the event:

“So I went to work in my car, which was parked where I’d always parked, and it was the same office I’d worked in for the last 20 years. But when I got to my department, it wasn’t my department. It has names on the door and mine wasn’t on it. I thought I was on the wrong floor, but no, it was my own floor. I went over to the office’s wireless section and looked myself up. I still worked there, but in another department, reporting to a superior I didn’t even know.”

Link to supernatural phenomena.

I have found myself mentioning parallel universes, or alternate dimensions, in a couple of my other articles. Could ghosts be the essence of entities, unknowingly sliding between universes? Could the Mandela effect be real, and we are infact sliding between realities ourselves? Here are those articles:

What are Ghosts? – https://azeriusblog.wordpress.com/2017/01/22/what-are-ghosts/?frame-nonce=7e589cf0a1

The Mandela effect – https://azeriusblog.wordpress.com/2017/01/07/the-mandela-effect/?frame-nonce=7e589cf0a1

Could the existence of parallel universes explain much of the paranormal and supernatural phenomena that we experience? I believe so.

Conclusion.

These are but a few pieces of the potential clues that have been recorded thus far, unfortunately, they do not equate to any certainty parallel universes existing, but if they did, it would explain many of the weird goings on in this world. I personally believe in the theory of parallel universes, the subject is backed by numerous pieces of evidence and is believed and theorised by some of the greatest minds alive this day. The theory may be slightly mind boggling, but imagine the possibilities that its existence could impose. Could we travel to these other dimensions and meet our alternate selves? Could we enter these other realities and bring back advanced technology or cures that we do not yet possess due to a decision made? Now I may have watched too much TV, but this theory almost invites you to speculate wildly. Keep your mind open, its only through these theory’s that we discover fact, and we may find that this is truth one day.

I’ve tried to leave out the quantum physics side of the theory, as that will make for another post, which will come shortly. Thank you for reading.

The Men in Black. Real or not?

When I hear of the mysterious men in black, I always start humming the catchy theme tune to the 1997 Will Smith movie. “Here come the Men in black, galaxy defenders”. I’ve probably just got you doing it too, but the reality of the men in black is one potentially much darker and sinister than their comedic portrayal in the movie.

They wear full black attire, except a white shirt, and claim to be government agents. They are almost always reported to be tall and slender, talk in an ‘robotic’ voice, and hide their eyes beneath sunglasses. Their intimidating black colour scheme also extends to their cars, often vintage models of Buicks, Cadillac’s and Lincolns. Their vehicles, however, have also been reported to give off an otherworldly green glow. They appear only to harass and threaten UFO witnesses, in an attempt to silence them, often confiscating or destroying any UFO evidence. They also appear to not only have jurisdiction over civilians but also with law enforcement and military personal. Many people believe, including those that have witnessed the Men in black, that they are in fact aliens themselves, acting solely to protect their own species. There have been many sighting and cases of them appearing all over the world, let’s look into some these:

Harold Dahl, 1947

The first recorded encounter with the Men in black was in 1947, whilst in the waters of Puget sound, Washington, Harold Dahl witnessed a group of UFO’s hovering above. Soon after the incident, he was approached by a black suited individual who forcefully advised him not to discuss the UFO sighting any further. After his encounter with the men in black, Dahl informed investigators that the UFO sighting was a hoax and never happened. Although, much later, he recanted his statement of a hoax, informing the public of his encounter.

Robert Richardson, 1967

Another encounter, in 1967. Robert Richardson was driving his car at night in Toledo, Ohio, when he hit something, which, he claimed, then vanished. He found a piece of metal that he believed originated from the mysterious thing he hit. A few days later, two men, wearing black hats and sunglasses and driving a black 1953 Cadillac, visited Richardson at his home at 11 p.m. to ask questions. A week later, two other men arrived, dressed in black suits, and asked Richardson to turn over the metal to them. When he informed them he had sent it for analysis, he said, they threatened to harm his wife if he didn’t get it back. He never heard from them again.

Dr. Herbert Hopkins, 1976

One of the more recent, strangest and most detailed of the encounters that I have researched, is one that happened to Dr. Herbert Hopkins, in 1976. At the time, Hopkins was studying a UFO incident. A mysterious man rang the doctor and introduced himself as a representative of a New Jersey UFO organization (which turned out to be fake). He wanted to know if he could meet with Hopkins and talk about the UFO case. He also asked if he was alone, to which the doctor confirmed. When Hopkins walked from the phone to the door and turned on the light, the man was already coming up the steps. “If he was even as close as across the street or next door telephoning, he could not possibly have gotten here as soon as I did to turn on the light for him,” recalled Hopkins.

When the stranger came in, Hopkins was struck by his appearance. “He wore a neatly tailored black suit, black shoes, black socks, a white shirt with black tie, and he wore a black derby” He also noticed that the mysterious man in black had no eyebrows or eyelashes and looked like he had “smooth, plastic skin”. In addition to this, “his lips were a brilliant ruby red and he spoke in an expressionless, monotone and scanning speech”

During the short time they were together, Hopkins and the strange man talked about the UFO case that the doctor had been investigating. Then the meeting took a strange turn, the odd visitor told Hopkins to take a coin out of his pocket and hold it in the palm of his hand. “He said, ‘Watch the coin,’ and it started to develop a silver colour instead of copper, and then the silver became bluish and the penny was getting quite fuzzy, out of focus, blurred, and then it simply was gone — it slowly dematerialized.”

Following the strange coin display, the stranger ordered the doctor to destroy all information he had gathered about the UFO case. “As he spoke his last words, I noticed his speech was slowing down. His words became slower and farther spaced. He slowly got to his feet, unsteadily, and he said very slowly, ‘My — energy — is — running — low — must — go — now — goodbye.’ Just like that.”

Hopkins said that the MIB, whoever or whatever he was, clung tightly to the railing as he went down the steps outside, placing both feet on each step, and then disappeared around the corner into a bright light. When the chilling encounter was over, a terrified, intimidated Hopkins destroyed all traces of any UFO materials he had.

These are but a few of the strange cases that have been reported about the mysterious Men in black, and there could be many more. When you consider the amount of terror these men provoke, many witnesses may not have been reported through fear of their threats. As you can see, the movies, starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, did not quite accurately represent the real reports of the Men in black. In fact, a popular conspiracy theory on the movie states that the movie itself is a way to help cover up the existence of the real Men in black, by making light of the agents, portraying them in an comedic way. Could this be Hollywood misdirection ordered by the government? Or aliens run the movie industry? Who knows, all that is for sure is, with all of the witness reports out there, there must be some form of agency protecting, or indeed hiding, the existence of extraterrestrial beings. Whether they are human or alien, I sure would not like to be visited by the mysterious and terrifying Men in Black.

7 new planets discovered and what happened to Asteroid 2016 WF9?

galaxy-2

Seven new exo-planets discovered.

There was some exciting news last week in the form of NASA’s announcement of 7 new earth sized exo-planets being discovered. The discovery has sparked much media attention and many speculations of what it could mean for the future search of potential habitable planets. NASA announced that this is the first known system of seven Earth-size planets around a single star.

These exoplanets orbit an ultracool dwarf star, known as TRAPPIST-1, in the constellation Aquarius. It is located about 40 light years away from Earth, close by astronomical standards, but about 44 million years away at the average cruising speed of a commercial passenger jet.

It has been speculated that all seven planets could have liquid water under the right atmospheric conditions. However, three of these planets are firmly located in the habitable zone, the area around the parent star where a rocky planet is most likely to have liquid water. Water is commonly thought to be one of the key prerequisites for extraterrestrial life. Scientists hope to scan the planets’ atmospheres for possible chemical fingerprints of life, in the near future.

For those of you familiar with the Drake equation, or have read my “The odds of alien life existing” (Found here https://azeriusblog.wordpress.com/2017/01/11/the-odds-of-alien-life-existing/ ), would know that this discovery effects the equation a great deal. Not only is this 7 more potential habitable planets to add to the equation, but that amount to orbit the same star is previously unheard of. This suggests that many more systems like this could exist, increasing the amount of potential habitable planets, and in turn increasing the number of potential intelligent civilisations within the universe exponentially.

What happened to Asteroid 2016 WF9?

Those of you that were aware of Asteroid 2016 WF9, or read my post “Asteroid incoming. Is the end nigh?” (found here https://azeriusblog.wordpress.com/2017/02/13/asteroid-incoming-is-the-end-nigh/ ), are probably wondering what happened to it? For a quick recap, the asteroid was either supposed to pass the earth or strike it, causing our destruction, on the 25th of February. Despite all of the media attention, weeks before the incoming asteroid, nothing has been officially announced as to what happened with the asteroid.

I think it is safe to assume that the asteroid has safely passed us at the predicted distance from earth. I think that this further proves that the mainstream media will choose to dramitise and misinform with the only goal to gain an audience. I also think that it is safe to assume that we can all take any doomsday theories with a pinch of salt.

Thank you for reading, this was just a quick update on some exciting news going on. You can expect some full articles, on some interesting subjects, coming from me very soon. Have a great day everyone.

The real warriors of For Honor

for_honor_604x423

To coincide with the highly-anticipated release of For Honor, I thought I’d take a look at some of the historical facts behind the warriors. For Honor is a melee action game, allowing you to take control of the highly skilled Samurai, the brutally efficient Vikings or the heavily armoured Knights. Set in a fictional world where these three factions clash and battle it out for survival and dominance. With multiple multi-player modes and 3 separate campaigns, there is much sword slashing, shield bashing and axe parrying to be had. So, without further ado, let’s look a bit deeper into these ancient warriors of history with my top 5 facts about each.

The Samurai.

  1. Although Samurai is strictly a masculine term, woman did in fact receive similar training in the arts of combat and warfare. These women were known as Onna-Bugeisha and often fought alongside the Samurai on the battlefield. Their weapon of choice was the Naginata, a spear that ended with a large sword like blade that was light, yet highly versatile. We can assume that these warriors were of a small minority, as very little of their existence is recorded.
  2. Many people believe that the Samurai were either a small elite force of warriors or defined caste of noblemen. However, it has been recorded that in their peak of power, up to 10 percent of Japans population were Samurai!
  3. The weaponry and ornate armour of the Samurai made them look tall and imposing on the battlefield, but they were in fact quite tiny. A 16th century Samurai was usually very slim and ranging from 160 to 165 centimetres (5’3” to 5’5” tall! I still wouldn’t want to mess with one though!
  4. If a Samurai fails to defend his honour in battle or follow the Samurai code of Bushido, he must perform the suicide ritual of Seppuku. The ritual involves slicing into your own stomach with your sword, and actually disembowelling yourself.
  5. The word Samurai, literally means ‘One who serves’, this is a code that all Samurai would live by. They were also followers of ‘The Way of the Warrior’ or Bushido. From the earliest times, the Samurai felt that the path of the warrior was one of honor, emphasizing duty to one’s master, and loyalty unto death. It was this Bushido code of “loyalty unto death” that made the Samurai so fierce in battle, and consequently very difficult to defeat. They believed that death was better than surrender.

The Knights.

  1. The earliest knights (ninth century) were men who protected a lord and his peasants. Two centuries later, knights had formed their own social order. This culture of honor, bravery, and battle continued into the 16th century.
  2. A full suit of plate armour weighed more than 50 pounds, but because the weight was evenly distributed all over the body, armoured knights had remarkable mobility!
  3. Knights began participating in tournaments in the eleventh century. The purpose of tournaments was originally to train for battle, but since the losers often had to give up their horse and armour to the winner, it became lucrative for some.
  4. The invention of the arbalest, a kind of crossbow, was thought to be the beginning of the decline of warrior knights. This was due to two facts. Firstly, it required no special training to use, so could be used by anyone. Most importantly though, the weapon was powerful enough to pierce through a knight’s armour.
  5. Sons born of noble families were sent away at the age of seven to live in the house of a lord. There, they would become pages and begin their knight training. At the age of fourteen, a page became a squire, and began to apprentice under a knight. As squires, the boys trained constantly in order to condition their bodies and perfect their weaponry skills. Many boys were winnowed out during the squire stage because the training was so difficult. Squires who made it through the training program were usually knighted around the age of 21.

The Vikings

  1. Despite popular belief, Vikings never wore horned helmets. Christians in contemporary Europe added the detail to make the Vikings look even more barbarian and pagan, with horns like Satan’s on their head.
  2. Evidence suggests Vikings had good personal hygiene and were well-groomed. In fact, excavators have found that Viking era grooming tools were some of the most commonly used of all Viking tools.
  3. Some people believed that the Vikings were sent by god as a punishment. An example of this was in 793, when their long ships arrived in the northeast of England. They burned buildings, destroyed a Christian monastery, stole gold, and killed and frightened the locals. The British church leaders believed that the Vikings had been sent by God to punish the sinful people of England.
  4. The Vikings had a complex social structure. Their kings didn’t ascend by right of parentage, as they do today, but were chosen as exceptionally strong leaders and fighters who could protect and defend the people. The Vikings would meet in assemblies to resolve problems, and the king would have the final say. Common issues discussed during these assemblies were law-breaking and punishment. Outlaws, those who had committed serious crimes, had no protection, and anyone could legally kill them.
  5. There was a special type of Viking warrior called a berserker. They were known to be the scariest and most terrifying of all the Vikings and were certainly the ones who committed the most violent acts during their pirate raids. These berserkers were also famous for eating everything and anything they could find, including taking dangerous drugs. They wore animal skins and made noises similar to a wolf howling when going into battle, in order to intimidate the opposition.

And there we have it, I hope you enjoyed reading about these legendary warriors. For Honor has been out for a week now, it’s a great deal of fun and its intricate combat system is challenging yet very much rewarding. I personally am completely addicted, and the game is so diverse and unique that I probably will be for some time. So put on your war paint, prepare your best battle cry, and I’ll see you on the battlefield.

Asteroid incoming. Is the end nigh?

deep-impact-asteroid-earth-1495-665x385

In answer to the title of this post, probably not. As a child, it was always a fear of mine that I would suddenly awake to a giant space rock hurtling towards the earth, a terrifying ball of fire intent on wiping out all existence on earth. I probably watched Armageddon far too many times though, and had very little faith in Bruce Willis’ ability to save humanity. It is very normal to fear something that we do not fully understand, and the media has a way to heighten this fear through misinformation and dramatisation. Should we have this fear though? Let’s look more into this.

Early this month, Asteroid 2017 BS32 hurtled past our tiny planet missing it by an estimated 161,280km. Now on a galactic and universal scale, that is pretty close, but when you consider that every planet in our solar system could fit between earth and the moon, not so much. But could it have destroyed the earth? The asteroid was of similar size to that of one that entered earths atmosphere in Russia, 2013, from this we can assume that the effects would have been comparable. The meteorite, due to its size and shallow angle of atmospheric entry, exploded in the air, injuring over 1000 people seriously enough to seek medical attention. The injuries were mainly due to broken glass from windows, that shattered due to the immense shock wave. From this we can conclude that, although the event was unfortunate for many, the earth is still here.

The near-miss of Asteroid 2017 BS32 follows news that another galactic stone, dubbed 2016 WF9, is on course to pass the Earth on February the 25th. Although NASA has stated that the space rock will fly by at a distance of 32 million miles from the planet, one alternate theory seems to be standing out. This theory, articulated by Dr Zakharovich, is that ‘NASA are lying through their teeth’. He believes that the asteroid is in fact a fragment of the fabled planet Nibiru, so is much larger than predicted, and heading straight for us! This of course, is highly unlikely, as Nibiru is likely a fictional planet formulated by doomsday theorists.

Indeed, the threat of a giant rock causing considerable damage to our planet remains a distinct possibility. Experts at NASA have reportedly attended an “emergency” summit to explore the risk posed by asteroids. They have warned it’s “not a matter of if, but when” we will be forced to deal with an asteroid slamming into the Earth’s surface.

But what exactly is an asteroid?

An asteroid is a small rocky mass which orbits the sun, but is too small to be classed as a planet. Most of them are found in the Asteroid Belt, a ring which lies between the orbits of Mars and Jupiter. It’s thought that asteroids are debris left over at the formation of the universe about 4.6 billion year ago. Some can be very large, but others can be tiny, even as small as a grain of sand. Because of their smaller size, asteroids lack the gravitational pull to pull themselves into a sphere, meaning they usually have a rocky, irregular appearance.

So, should we be worried about asteroids?

History reassures us that the most dangerous asteroids are very rare. About once a year, an asteroid the size of a car hits the atmosphere, burning up before it reaches the surface. Larger asteroids, that are believed to strike Earth every 1,000 to 10,000 years, could destroy a city or cause devastating tsunamis. Asteroids large enough to wipe out life, which would need to be over a quarter of a mile wide, only strike once every 1,000 centuries. So, the probability of a life altering asteroid crashing into the Earth during our lifetime is really quite small.

What would happen if one struck the Earth?

When an asteroid crashes into the Earth, it’s known as a meteorite, and can potentially cause catastrophic damage, depending on the size. For example, it is theorised that it was in fact an asteroid which wiped out the dinosaurs, as the immense force of the impact threw up a dust cloud which blocked out sunlight, destroying life. To this day its crater, known as Chicxulub, still exists in Mexico. At the time, experts say that it released the same amount of energy as an atomic weapon. So, an asteroid’s effects on Earth ultimately depends on the individual asteroid, but it is clear the if one large enough did strike the Earth, the consequences could be catastrophic.

In conclusion to this, I believe that we are safe from any immediate dangers posed by an asteroid strike. We can refer to history and probability to reassure us that it is highly unlikely that an asteroid of earth threatening size will hit our precious little planet. The media often choose to write or talk about worst case scenarios in order to draw attention to their articles and stories, nothing more. With the ever increasing level of technology aiding in the surveillance of this field and the number of brilliant minds keeping watch, I believe that we are safe. With a little self-education, and faith in those watching the skies, we can reassure ourselves and one another.

My Blog

milky-way

Hello everyone. So I’ve decided to change up my blog a bit. My original plan was to focus on the Supernatural and Paranormal, generally the unexplained. As I am writing more and more, and working on my writing style, I am finding that I want to write about a number of subjects. I just love to write!

Of course, the unexplained is a huge interest of mine, but I also like researching and discussing ancient history and science too. I also wish to share some of my experience/s with mental health issues, in the hope that I can aid someone going through the same problems that I once had.

This was just a quick post to explain my plans and where I am hoping of going with this. For me, this is a place to share some of my knowledge by putting some of my thoughts, theories, experiences and ponderings onto paper (or computer screeny thing). Eventually, when I’m brave enough, I will also be sharing some fiction that I am working on!

“The best thing you can do is the right thing; the next best thing you can do is the wrong thing; the worst thing you can do is nothing.” -Theodore Roosevelt

Thank you for reading, don’t be afraid to ask questions and make suggestions for future content on any of my posts, I enjoy interaction and will reply to everything.

Have a great day,

What are Ghosts?

9804852184_8e247d6538_z

The paranormal phenomena known as ghosts are as old as the times of ancient civilisations, with many of their tale’s rich in spirit lore. In the 1800s, Victorian England, tales of spirits were all the rage, with Ouija board sessions being held during social occasions, often accompanied with tea and crumpets. In the world today, the unexplained and mysterious phenomenon is still widely believed. In a recent survey, it was discovered that almost half of us believe in ghosts! But what could they be? There are many speculations and theories on what ghosts could be, let’s take a look at some of those in detail.

Intelligent haunting

The traditional and probably most widely believed theory is that they are the spirits of dead people that are for some reason are ‘stuck’ between this plain of existence and the next. They are often stuck due to some form of tragedy or trauma, or having left something that they need to finish. Upon passing, our spirit should pass into the next dimension, but upon being ‘stuck’, our spirit must enter the light to pass. We must assume that the ‘light’ mentioned is a portal of sorts, between this realm and the next. The ghosts in this theory create intelligent hauntings, and often haunt their place of death or a place they loved in life. Very often, these ghosts are able to interact with the living. These ghosts are also able to manifest an incorporeal form, that we ourselves can perceive and also capture using surveillance devices. Some people claim to be able to communicate with these lost spirits, having the ability to not only talk to them, but see them and sense them when others cannot. These people are known as psychics or mediums and they often use their abilities to help the spirits move on.

Residual haunting

Some ghosts appear to be merely a recording of an action or event, in a specific environment, acting on a constant loop, sometimes replaying at an exact time and date. For example: A child’s laughter being heard from a place where they once played, a prisoner banging on their cell door where they were once held captive or a soldier standing guard at a post that they once guarded. There have even been cases of mechanical objects, such as trains and cars, creating a residual haunting, appearing and being heard where they often travelled. These ghosts do not interact or even appear aware of the living. Their appearance and actions are always the same when witnessed. These ghosts are not spirits or souls, but simply pure energy, created at a time of heightened emotion. This energy then gets stored in the environment, much like an analogue camera with a film roll, imprinted for as long as the environment remains.

A glimpse into an alternate reality

A lesser known and believed theory is that ghosts are entities from other dimensions. The ghosts in this theory are interdimensional beings that slide in and out of our reality, sometimes not even fully aware that they are doing so. This theory would explain why ghosts often appear confused and incoherent in EVP recording, as they wake up suddenly experiencing a different world. While they are not always in physical form, it is possible that only their energy or spirit enters our dimension. Potentially, people that we refer to as psychics, in this theory, have further evolved brains that are susceptible to perceiving interdimensional beings more than usual.

A projection of our own inner psyche

Another theory, one that some sceptics choose to believe, is ghosts are products of our own minds through fear or emotional need. For example, a grieving widow sees her deceased husband because she needs to, giving her comfort and closure. In this case, the mind creates the experience to help itself deal with the stress of the loss. Since we do not know the full potential of our minds power, we could be in fact creating physical manifestations that we can even interact with.

So, there we have it, could one of these theories explain the phenomenon of ghosts? Of course, there is room for all of these theories to indeed be fact, the world is a large and mysterious place that we do not yet fully understand. Maybe ghosts are just beings that our minds cannot yet fathom. One day we will discover the truth, but for now it is up to us to speculate and theorise, and to believe in what we want to believe.
