Alien Abduction

Since the late 1950s, there have been countless worldwide accounts of alien abduction. Each case seems to vary slightly, from the type of Alien, to the situation and time of the abduction, but all have many similarities. Some key similarities found in the majority of abduction claims include hours of missing time, gaps in memory, mysterious injuries, scars and/or implants, disorientation, reproductive issues, and post-traumatic stress symptoms. Many cases are dismissed as psychological trauma’s such as mental health issues and in some cases, sleep paralysis. But could these abductions be real? If so, why are they happening?

One of the main theories as to why aliens may be abducting us is experimentation. Many reported abductions include recollection of being restrained to an object that can best be described as an operating table. The aliens, normally greys, surround the abductee, wielding strange tools. Mechanical arms and other instruments have also been reported, emerging from the ceiling above them. But why would they want to experiment on us? My best guess at this would be discovery. Perhaps the aliens are simply curious scientists, attempting to discover more about our species. Or, perhaps, as depicted by the popular short story War of the Worlds, they are planning an attack and wish to know thy enemy.

Here are some truly terrifying, real-life accounts, of alien abduction.

Jim and Jack Weiner.
Brothers Jim and Jack Weiner, and their art school classmates Chuck Rack and Charlie Foltz, were abducted during a fishing trip at the Allagash Waterway in Maine. The men didn’t have any luck fishing in the daytime, so they decided to take a canoe out into the water for some late night fishing.

While floating through the water in complete darkness, the group noticed a glowing light reflecting from the top of the trees. The light began to change colours before hovering over their canoe and engulfing the entire group. Before they knew it, they were back at the campground sitting in front of a burned out fire. They all knew that something strange had happened to them that night and decided to get help to remember exactly. After going through hypnotherapy, each man retold the exact same story. They recounted strange beings examining them aboard a spaceship.

Travis Walton.

One of the most recognisable alien abduction stories comes from Travis Walton. On November 6, 1975, 22-year-old Walton and his crew of loggers were finishing another day of work. While they were driving home, they spotted a silvery disc floating in the sky.

The driver stopped the car and Walton jumped out and ran toward the object. When the spacecraft began to move, Walton stepped back toward the car, but it was a little too late. A blue-green beam shot out and “struck” Walton, and he disappeared. Walton’s crew fled the area, and one of his co-workers called the police from a nearby town. When the police arrived at the scene, Walton was nowhere to be found. A search party looked for him for five days, until he suddenly reappeared looking tired and emaciated. He told investigators he had been abducted by the craft and spent the last five days inside the UFO where medical experiments were performed on his body.
A while later, renewed interest in his alleged abduction prompted Walton and his co-workers to take a polygraph test in which they were all shown to be truthful in recounting the experience. In 1978, Walton published a book about his experience, entitled The Walton Experience. In 1993, his story was turned into the film Fire in the Sky.

Betty and Barney Hill.

Betty and Barney Hill, a married couple living in New Hampshire, claimed they witnessed a UFO while driving back from a trip to Niagara Falls. They followed the movement of the craft for some time; eventually, it descended sharply, causing Barney to stop the car in the middle of the highway. The couple claims to have seen creatures peering at them through the craft’s windows. The craft then lifted over their vehicle, and the Hills reported hearing a buzzing sound.

The Hills’ consciousness went blurry, and when they eventually regained awareness, they’d travelled 35 miles south with no memory of having done so. They arrived home and realised their watches were broken. Betty reported the incident to the Pease Air Force Base. She began having dreams about the incident; later, both Barney and Betty would be interviewed at length while under hypnosis. The story became national news after a story was published in the Boston Traveler in 1965; a book about their story, called The Interrupted Journey was published in 1987.

John Salter.

Not all experiences with alien abduction have been negative though, here’s an example of this.

John Salter, Jr. and his son John III were travelling down the highway when they noticed a UFO in the sky. The story then gets a little strange because neither of them had a vivid recollection of the events that took place. They do remember seeing a group of half human, half alien children who they quickly bonded with. The creatures made them feel at ease and protected them during the alleged hour-long abduction.

The men were subjected to medical examinations, and following the experience, they both reported their overall health had improved. John Jr., who had a permanent forehead scar before the incident took place, claims the scar completely healed and disappeared after the abduction.

I find that the most interesting thing about all of these accounts is the people that they come from. None of these people would have anything to gain from telling of their encounter, in fact, in many cases, quite the opposite. In my mind, this makes the majority of abduction accounts very plausible. In addition to this, many abductees can only recall the event with the help of hypnosis. Hypnotherapy has been scientifically proven, so surely this means that the events that its patients recall are real? If not, then perhaps abduction is some neurological phenomena that we do not yet understand.

For me though, alien abduction is highly plausible and truly terrifying. The idea that these beings can take us at any time that they choose, is a scary one. Maybe they are just curious. Maybe they are trying to find out something specific. Maybe they are trying to aid us in some unseen way. One day we may find out, but for now, we can only speculate.

NASA Announcement and Mysterious Disappearance.

NASA announcement: Possible evidence that Saturn’s moon, Enceladus, could host alien life.

Some exciting news was announced by NASA last week, one of Saturn’s moons, known as Enceladus, could support life due to a newly discovered presence of hydrogen. This suggests that Enceladus, a small icy moon located a billion miles farther from the sun than Earth, has almost all of the ingredients required for habitability. So Extra-terrestrial life may be closer to us than originally thought!

The findings are the result of 12 years of investigation by the Cassini probe. Using a mass spectrometer, the Cassini was able to detect an abundance of hydrogen molecules in water plumes rising from fractures in Enceladus’ icy surface. Saturn’s sixth-largest moon is an ice-encased world with an ocean beneath. The researchers believe that the hydrogen originated from a hydrothermal reaction between the moon’s ocean and its rocky core.

Life, as we know it, requires three main ingredients to originate, exist, evolve or function- liquid water, an energy source for metabolism and the right chemical ingredients including oxygen, hydrogen, carbon, nitrogen, phosphorus and sulphur.

Thomas Zurbuchen, associate administrator for NASA’s Science Mission Directorate at Headquarters in Washington, stated: “This is the closest we’ve come, so far, to identifying a place with some of the ingredients needed for a habitable environment. We have not found evidence of the presence of microbial life in the ocean of Enceladus, but the discovery of hydrogen gas and the evidence for ongoing hydrothermal activity offer a tantalizing suggestion that habitable conditions could exist beneath the moon’s icy crust”.

So maybe this isn’t the Alien life that we have all been hoping for, but it’s a start. Knowing that there is life out there, even bacteria, is a step in the right direction.

Missing student feared to have been abducted by aliens.

Bruno Borges, aged 24, reportedly went missing from his family home on March 27th. The psychology student’s disappearance has sparked international interest after a bizarre video of his bedroom was leaked online. The footage shows that he had transformed his room into a kind of shrine, covering his walls with a coded writing and installing a huge statue of philosopher Giordano Bruno. Giordano Bruno was one of the first thinkers to predict the existence of extraterrestrial life, some theorise that Bruno Borges was trying to complete his work.

Among the items in his room were 14 bound manuscripts, written in the same code that was found on the walls. He had told his mother, Denise Borges, that writing these 14 books would “change mankind in a good way”.

Bruno was last seen by his family when they had a meal in their town of Rio Branco, in the state of Acre, before his parents went away travelling. When his parents returned almost a month later, they opened up his room to find he had removed all his furniture and covered the walls with the writing, symbols and pictures. According to Bruno’s older sister Gabriela, Bruno had kept his room locked for 24 days while his parents were out of town.

A self portrait of Borges was also discovered hanging in the room, it depicts him with an alien, that appears to be welcoming, or even comforting, Borges. This portrait, along with other strange findings, has led many to believe that he has been either been abducted by aliens or accepted by them.

This is indeed a very strange case, with many theories being speculated. Has Bruno Borges been abducted by aliens? Has he discovered something not yet fathomed? Or has he just ran away? One thing is for sure, I hope that he returns, or is returned, safely to his family.

As always, thank you for reading. These were just a few interesting things that I came across recently, that I thought I’d share with you all. There will be a full article posted later this week on the mysterious and terrifying subject of Alien abductions. Have a great day 😊

Do Parallel Universes exist?

The premise of parallel universes has always fascinated me. The idea of there being more than one of me is, I’m sure, a terrifying thought for many. Parallel universes are a subject that has been pondered over and theorised by many renowned scientists, yet is for now, unproven. The theory itself poses numerous possibilities, and in the event of its existence, could solve many of sciences greatest mysteries. The subject has been used for many works of fiction, including popular TV shows and movies. There have been many incidents and reports to back up the theory, we will look into some of these, but first, there are two versions of this same theory.

The many worlds theory.

One evening in 1954, in a student hall at Princeton University, Hugh Everett was drinking sherry with his friends when he came up with the idea that our choices and actions cause the universe to constantly split. These universes are all related to ours, except with slight changes due to the different outcomes. For example, our wars have had different outcomes than the ones we know, species that are extinct in our universe have evolved and adapted in others, in other universes we humans may have become extinct. These are but a few of the many possibilities, think about it, the list is endless, and we can only imagine the potential outcomes. For example, if we come to a crossroads, there are five possibilities of what we could do: turn left, turn right, go straight on, go backwards, or stay still. In this theory, all of those outcomes happen, but in different universes, that are created at the moment of the choice. Another simpler example might be, if we were asked to go into town. At that moment of the choice, two universes are created, in one you go, in the other you don’t.

String theory.

The second of these theories is string theory, originated by the Japanese-American physicist Michio Kaku. Like the Many-Worlds theory, string theory demonstrates that parallel universes exist. According to the theory, our own universe is like a bubble that exists alongside similar parallel universes.  Unlike the Many-Worlds theory, string theory supposes that these universes can come into contact with one another. String theory says that gravity can flow between these parallel universes. When these universes interact, a Big Bang like the one that created our universe occurs. In this theory, the parallel universes exist as a constant, moving through time alongside our own. This is where this theory differs from the second.

Clues of parallel universes existing.

Deja vu and Alter vu.

Deja vu and Alter vu are two of the several strange phenomena of the mind. Deja vu is the uncanny sensation that you’ve experienced an event before. Alter vu is a term used to describe when someone remembers an event, or even their entire life, differently. Both experiences have potential neurological and memory based explanations, but is it possible that Deja vus are memories from other versions of ourselves in other universes, or that Alter vus are truly memories from our own altered realities?

While the mechanism for dreaming is fairly understood, by this I mean that they tend to occur during REM sleep, we still don’t know their true purpose, if there is one. Are they a glimpse into the unconscious mind or a way for our brains to sort out information? Or could they possibly be windows into a parallel universe and another version of ourselves?

The man from Taured.

A strange man who arrived in Tokyo in 1954 with a passport from a country that didn’t exist, called Taured. Japanese customs officials detained the man, but his passport was not a fake: it had the recognised stamps, was issued by the country of Taured, and even included Japanese stamps from a previous visit. The man swore that Taured was a European country that had existed for 1,000 years, and he also held other papers, such as bank statements, with which the country’s name was on them. After several hours, customs officials eventually placed the man in a hotel, with security nearby to ensure that he did not leave his room, while they checked things out. The next morning, he was gone. No trace. A manhunt ensued, but to no avail, he had simply vanished.

Lerina Garcia.

Lerina Garcia woke up one day in a world, our world, that did not belong to her. According to the story, as her day progressed she continued to notice “small incongruities”, little things that were just off. As her day progressed further, she started to notice that her whole life was missing. Here is some of her recorded account of the event:

“So I went to work in my car, which was parked where I’d always parked, and it was the same office I’d worked in for the last 20 years. But when I got to my department, it wasn’t my department. It has names on the door and mine wasn’t on it. I thought I was on the wrong floor, but no, it was my own floor. I went over to the office’s wireless section and looked myself up. I still worked there, but in another department, reporting to a superior I didn’t even know.”

Link to supernatural phenomena.

I have found myself mentioning parallel universes, or alternate dimensions, in a couple of my other articles. Could ghosts be the essence of entities, unknowingly sliding between universes? Could the Mandela effect be real, and we are infact sliding between realities ourselves? Here are those articles:

What are Ghosts? –

The Mandela effect –

Could the existence of parallel universes explain much of the paranormal and supernatural phenomena that we experience? I believe so.

These are but a few pieces of the potential clues that have been recorded thus far, unfortunately, they do not equate to any certainty parallel universes existing, but if they did, it would explain many of the weird goings on in this world. I personally believe in the theory of parallel universes, the subject is backed by numerous pieces of evidence and is believed and theorised by some of the greatest minds alive this day. The theory may be slightly mind boggling, but imagine the possibilities that its existence could impose. Could we travel to these other dimensions and meet our alternate selves? Could we enter these other realities and bring back advanced technology or cures that we do not yet possess due to a decision made? Now I may have watched too much TV, but this theory almost invites you to speculate wildly. Keep your mind open, its only through these theory’s that we discover fact, and we may find that this is truth one day.

I’ve tried to leave out the quantum physics side of the theory, as that will make for another post, which will come shortly. Thank you for reading.

The Men in Black. Real or not?

When I hear of the mysterious men in black, I always start humming the catchy theme tune to the 1997 Will Smith movie. “Here come the Men in black, galaxy defenders”. I’ve probably just got you doing it too, but the reality of the men in black is one potentially much darker and sinister than their comedic portrayal in the movie.

They wear full black attire, except a white shirt, and claim to be government agents. They are almost always reported to be tall and slender, talk in an ‘robotic’ voice, and hide their eyes beneath sunglasses. Their intimidating black colour scheme also extends to their cars, often vintage models of Buicks, Cadillac’s and Lincolns. Their vehicles, however, have also been reported to give off an otherworldly green glow. They appear only to harass and threaten UFO witnesses, in an attempt to silence them, often confiscating or destroying any UFO evidence. They also appear to not only have jurisdiction over civilians but also with law enforcement and military personal. Many people believe, including those that have witnessed the Men in black, that they are in fact aliens themselves, acting solely to protect their own species. There have been many sighting and cases of them appearing all over the world, let’s look into some these:

Harold Dahl, 1947

The first recorded encounter with the Men in black was in 1947, whilst in the waters of Puget sound, Washington, Harold Dahl witnessed a group of UFO’s hovering above. Soon after the incident, he was approached by a black suited individual who forcefully advised him not to discuss the UFO sighting any further. After his encounter with the men in black, Dahl informed investigators that the UFO sighting was a hoax and never happened. Although, much later, he recanted his statement of a hoax, informing the public of his encounter.

Robert Richardson, 1967

Another encounter, in 1967. Robert Richardson was driving his car at night in Toledo, Ohio, when he hit something, which, he claimed, then vanished. He found a piece of metal that he believed originated from the mysterious thing he hit. A few days later, two men, wearing black hats and sunglasses and driving a black 1953 Cadillac, visited Richardson at his home at 11 p.m. to ask questions. A week later, two other men arrived, dressed in black suits, and asked Richardson to turn over the metal to them. When he informed them he had sent it for analysis, he said, they threatened to harm his wife if he didn’t get it back. He never heard from them again.

Dr. Herbert Hopkins, 1976

One of the more recent, strangest and most detailed of the encounters that I have researched, is one that happened to Dr. Herbert Hopkins, in 1976. At the time, Hopkins was studying a UFO incident. A mysterious man rang the doctor and introduced himself as a representative of a New Jersey UFO organization (which turned out to be fake). He wanted to know if he could meet with Hopkins and talk about the UFO case. He also asked if he was alone, to which the doctor confirmed. When Hopkins walked from the phone to the door and turned on the light, the man was already coming up the steps. “If he was even as close as across the street or next door telephoning, he could not possibly have gotten here as soon as I did to turn on the light for him,” recalled Hopkins.

When the stranger came in, Hopkins was struck by his appearance. “He wore a neatly tailored black suit, black shoes, black socks, a white shirt with black tie, and he wore a black derby” He also noticed that the mysterious man in black had no eyebrows or eyelashes and looked like he had “smooth, plastic skin”. In addition to this, “his lips were a brilliant ruby red and he spoke in an expressionless, monotone and scanning speech”

During the short time they were together, Hopkins and the strange man talked about the UFO case that the doctor had been investigating. Then the meeting took a strange turn, the odd visitor told Hopkins to take a coin out of his pocket and hold it in the palm of his hand. “He said, ‘Watch the coin,’ and it started to develop a silver colour instead of copper, and then the silver became bluish and the penny was getting quite fuzzy, out of focus, blurred, and then it simply was gone — it slowly dematerialized.”

Following the strange coin display, the stranger ordered the doctor to destroy all information he had gathered about the UFO case. “As he spoke his last words, I noticed his speech was slowing down. His words became slower and farther spaced. He slowly got to his feet, unsteadily, and he said very slowly, ‘My — energy — is — running — low — must — go — now — goodbye.’ Just like that.”

Hopkins said that the MIB, whoever or whatever he was, clung tightly to the railing as he went down the steps outside, placing both feet on each step, and then disappeared around the corner into a bright light. When the chilling encounter was over, a terrified, intimidated Hopkins destroyed all traces of any UFO materials he had.

These are but a few of the strange cases that have been reported about the mysterious Men in black, and there could be many more. When you consider the amount of terror these men provoke, many witnesses may not have been reported through fear of their threats. As you can see, the movies, starring Will Smith and Tommy Lee Jones, did not quite accurately represent the real reports of the Men in black. In fact, a popular conspiracy theory on the movie states that the movie itself is a way to help cover up the existence of the real Men in black, by making light of the agents, portraying them in an comedic way. Could this be Hollywood misdirection ordered by the government? Or aliens run the movie industry? Who knows, all that is for sure is, with all of the witness reports out there, there must be some form of agency protecting, or indeed hiding, the existence of extraterrestrial beings. Whether they are human or alien, I sure would not like to be visited by the mysterious and terrifying Men in Black.

What are Ghosts?

The paranormal phenomena known as ghosts are as old as the times of ancient civilisations, with many of their tale’s rich in spirit lore. In the 1800s, Victorian England, tales of spirits were all the rage, with Ouija board sessions being held during social occasions, often accompanied with tea and crumpets. In the world today, the unexplained and mysterious phenomenon is still widely believed. In a recent survey, it was discovered that almost half of us believe in ghosts! But what could they be? There are many speculations and theories on what ghosts could be, let’s take a look at some of those in detail.

Intelligent haunting

The traditional and probably most widely believed theory is that they are the spirits of dead people that are for some reason are ‘stuck’ between this plain of existence and the next. They are often stuck due to some form of tragedy or trauma, or having left something that they need to finish. Upon passing, our spirit should pass into the next dimension, but upon being ‘stuck’, our spirit must enter the light to pass. We must assume that the ‘light’ mentioned is a portal of sorts, between this realm and the next. The ghosts in this theory create intelligent hauntings, and often haunt their place of death or a place they loved in life. Very often, these ghosts are able to interact with the living. These ghosts are also able to manifest an incorporeal form, that we ourselves can perceive and also capture using surveillance devices. Some people claim to be able to communicate with these lost spirits, having the ability to not only talk to them, but see them and sense them when others cannot. These people are known as psychics or mediums and they often use their abilities to help the spirits move on.

Residual haunting

Some ghosts appear to be merely a recording of an action or event, in a specific environment, acting on a constant loop, sometimes replaying at an exact time and date. For example: A child’s laughter being heard from a place where they once played, a prisoner banging on their cell door where they were once held captive or a soldier standing guard at a post that they once guarded. There have even been cases of mechanical objects, such as trains and cars, creating a residual haunting, appearing and being heard where they often travelled. These ghosts do not interact or even appear aware of the living. Their appearance and actions are always the same when witnessed. These ghosts are not spirits or souls, but simply pure energy, created at a time of heightened emotion. This energy then gets stored in the environment, much like an analogue camera with a film roll, imprinted for as long as the environment remains.

A glimpse into an alternate reality

A lesser known and believed theory is that ghosts are entities from other dimensions. The ghosts in this theory are interdimensional beings that slide in and out of our reality, sometimes not even fully aware that they are doing so. This theory would explain why ghosts often appear confused and incoherent in EVP recording, as they wake up suddenly experiencing a different world. While they are not always in physical form, it is possible that only their energy or spirit enters our dimension. Potentially, people that we refer to as psychics, in this theory, have further evolved brains that are susceptible to perceiving interdimensional beings more than usual.

A projection of our own inner psyche

Another theory, one that some sceptics choose to believe, is ghosts are products of our own minds through fear or emotional need. For example, a grieving widow sees her deceased husband because she needs to, giving her comfort and closure. In this case, the mind creates the experience to help itself deal with the stress of the loss. Since we do not know the full potential of our minds power, we could be in fact creating physical manifestations that we can even interact with.

So, there we have it, could one of these theories explain the phenomenon of ghosts? Of course, there is room for all of these theories to indeed be fact, the world is a large and mysterious place that we do not yet fully understand. Maybe ghosts are just beings that our minds cannot yet fathom. One day we will discover the truth, but for now it is up to us to speculate and theorise, and to believe in what we want to believe.

Alien hand discovered. Real or hoax?

Whilst researching the odds of alien life being in this universe, I kept coming across this image of the supposed remains of an alien hand. The ‘Alien claw’, as many articles have dubbed it, was discovered early this month (January 2017) in ‘mystery caves’ deep beneath a desert in Peru (although the exact location is being kept tightly under wraps by the discoverer).

This potential extraterrestrial appendage was discovered by a team of Alien hunters, along with a ‘warped skull’. Unfortunately I cannot find any images of the skull, or evidence of it existing, for that matter.

The claw and skull was then passed to a paranormal researcher who used an unnamed group of ‘experts’ to conduct tests. The group concluded that both items were ‘genuine biological objects with real bone and skin tissues’.

The remains are being handed over to experts in America, for radiocarbon dating and DNA tests in the hope that this will reveal the true origin of these mysterious objects.

So there we have it, could this be proof of alien existence? I have to remain sceptical on this one, there is far too much information being withheld by the discovering group. I guess it could be argued that they are withholding information to avoid media attention or the government, but then they wouldn’t have made this discovery public at all. To add to this, isn’t the coincidence of alien hunters stumbling upon alien remains in a location that they wont completely disclose of, a bit convenient? Maybe I am looking at the facts too closely, but my scepticism will remain until the further tests are made public and the results state that the objects are of alien origin.

What do you think on this? Is it real or a hoax?

The odds of Alien life existing

Ever since we began exploring the stars, humanity has pondered on whether we are alone in this universe. The universe is potentially infinite, ever expanding, we know this due to having witnessed galaxies moving away from us and each other. It is due to this vastness of the universe that we can speculate that there must be intelligent life, other than ours, in either this galaxy or another. If the universe contains billions of galaxies, and if each galaxy contains billions of stars, and if a fraction of those stars have earth-like planets, then the chances of alien life existing must be pretty high, right? In 1995, astronomers located the first planets outside our solar system. Since then, they’ve detected nearly 300 more. Most of these planets are large hot planets, much like Jupiter, but some are small earth-like planets. Could these planets already have intelligent civilisations?

If only there was a mathematical equation to determine this for us. In fact, there is. In 1961, astronomer Frank Drake presented a formula, now known as the Drake Equation, that estimates the number of intelligent civilisations in our galaxy. The formula generated much controversy, due to it generating widely variable results, but still remains as our best way to quantify just how many extraterrestrials there could be. The formula goes like this:

N = RfpneflfifcL

In this equation, N is the number of detectable civilizations in our galaxy. The other variables are described below:

  • R is the rate of star formation in the galaxy
  • fp is the fraction of stars that form planets
  • ne is the number of planets hospitable to life (i.e., Earth-like planets)
  • fl is the fraction of these planets on which life actually emerges
  • fi is the fraction of these planets on which intelligent life arises
  • fc is the fraction of these planets with intelligent beings capable of interstellar communication
  • L is the length of time such a civilization remains detectable

As you can see from the equation, there are many variables that we can only speculate on, however, this has been done. Drakes original calculation predicted that there are 10,000 undiscovered intelligent civilizations in the Milky way alone.

Harvard physicist Paul Horowitz stated in a 1996 interview “Intelligent life in the universe? Guaranteed. Intelligent life in our galaxy? So overwhelmingly likely that I’d give you almost any odds you’d like.” However, this was swiftly countered by the Fermi Paradox. This paradox, first articulated by nuclear physicist Enrico Fermi in 1950, asks the following questions: If extraterrestrials are so common, why haven’t they visited? Why haven’t they communicated with us? Or, finally, why haven’t they left behind some residue of their existence, such as heat or light?

I must agree with the questions raised by the Fermi paradox, however, maybe we can speculate the whys of this argument. It is only being assumed that they have not visited, maybe they are here already. We have all heard of the popular theories of reptilian aliens being in major places of power and the alien structures under the sea. Unfortunately, there is no hard evidence on this, but anything is possible and the speculation must come from somewhere. Maybe they are watching us right now, deciding when the time is right to make contact. Crop circles, UFO sighting and abductions all point to this. There have been literally thousands of such cases, can so many people be wrong? Maybe, they are out there, but they haven’t reached us yet. The problem is distance, even if we manage harness travelling at the speed of light, our galaxy itself would still take 25,000 years to span. That’s 1/8 of our entire existence on this earth! However, it is impossible to know the full potential of technology. Our own technology is forever advancing, and what we can do now, when compared with 6,000 years ago, is astounding. A species that has survived much longer than ours could have unlimited technological potential, maybe even more so than our minds can fathom.

In conclusion to this, the chances of alien life existing is exceptionally high. We may not see any hard evidence of this for many years to come, or we might be shaking hands with extraterrestrials tomorrow. We can only speculate and calculate using what we are still discovering about the universe and our own existence. What extraterrestrials will do when they discover us or how they will act when they decide to unveil themselves, is a different matter altogether, and a topic for another post. I personally believe that, with the facts that I have uncovered, we are not alone in this universe, and I hope that we will discover evidence of that within my lifetime. Keep watching the stars, and know that someone, somewhere, might be watching back.

The Mandela Effect

The Mandela effect seems to be somewhat of a craze in the paranormal and theorist community at the moment. It has a huge following with over 11,000 posts web wide, a dedicated Subreddit and websites appearing to catalogue information on the theory. So here is a brief look at what it’s all about and my personal thoughts on the subject.

The Mandela effect is a theory put forth by writer and paranormal consultant Fiona Broome, that shared false memories are in fact glimpses into parallel worlds with different timelines. Fiona Broome states that the origin of her theory came out of a discussion about whether or not Nelson Mandela died in prison. Henceforth the title given, the Mandela effect. The theory suggests that we are in fact are sliding between parallel realities without even realising it, obtaining different truths that counter what we know as fact.

There are many examples of this, given by a growing community, and the list is forever expanding. I will give my top five examples:

  1. The word Dilemma being spelt Dilemna. I also remember the latter being the correct spelling, strange.
  2. The “tank man” in Tiananmen Square was run over by a tank, though he was not. Although I personally do not remember the man being ran over by the tank, this one has a huge following, and is one of the biggest cases of the Mandela effect.
  3. Mickey mouse having suspenders, when in fact, he doesn’t. This one actually blew my mind, I remember him having suspenders, why does he have buttons on his shorts if not?
  4. The Berenstain Bears was once known as The Berenstein bears. It may only be one letter, but it changes the sound of the whole word, I personally remember it as the latter.
  5. Nelson Mandela died in prison, when he in fact died only a few years ago, a free man. Of course, the name sake of the theory. This also blew my mind to find out, I can see how this event caused such a phenomenon.

There are so many more examples of this phenomena, including places on the map increasing in size or moving and famous lines in well-known movies being altered. I will not include any more examples here, as there are far too many, but it is definitely worth looking into.

So how are so many people collectively remembering things incorrectly, it seems impossible, right? Perhaps it is. I am a firm believer in alternate realities, the theory has been researched and documented by some of the greatest minds that the world has ever known. However, I cannot come to a solid conclusion on this subject, my view sways from both the mundane and the paranormal. So, I will conclude twice:

The mundane- We are remembering things incorrectly.

Although it may seem impossible that so many of us are remembering incorrectly, many of the examples of The Mandela effect, are slight. In theory, if one person hears something incorrectly, say a line a movie, the chances are that many more people will hear the same thing. If those people then pass on what they heard, the line could potentially change in their mind too. Thus, a chain of incorrect information is formed. The same can be applied to logos appearing different and cartoon characters changing, or it could simply be the artists making slight changes.

I am not in any way demeaning anyone’s beliefs with this conclusion, everyone is entitled to their own interpretation on this subject. However, this is not my final conclusion, as I am still deciding for myself.

The paranormal- We are sliding in and out of alternate realities.

This is the theory put forward by Fiona Broome herself, and is believed by many. There is so much about this universe that we are yet to understand, it is possible that our minds are yet to fathom our own ability. This ability could be, indeed, to travel to alternate realities, and thus we would not know. This would resolve why we remember things that are simply not true, we grow up knowing something as fact, that fact is then literally altered.

I’m going to throw a curve ball in here, another possibility- Glitches in the matrix.

Another theory in itself, but with many similarities that could conclude the change of information. The theory put simply is that we are all living inside a preordained world or computer program. I won’t go too far into the details of this theory, as it would need a post itself, but those are the basics. Changes or glitches in this program could have gone past us unnoticed, until now. Maybe we are waking up.

Whatever your views are on The Mandela effect, I think that we can all come together and agree that it is a very interesting subject with numerous possibilities and theories. Maybe one day, with all of the great minds working on this theory, we can discover something truly amazing.

Modern Day Monster Hunting

With an exponentially increasing advancement in technology, we can now capture supernatural and paranormal phenomena in high definition using an array of voice and video recording equipment. This should prove indefinitely the existence of said phenomena, right? Unfortunately, not so. With such advancements in recording technology comes the inevitable advancement in editing software.

Enter the fakes. The hoaxes. The deceivers. Call them what you will, but I’ll go with fakes. There are so many fake videos out there that it would be almost impossible to discern the genuine. We may have already seen the evidence that we need to verify the existence of the supernatural and paranormal, but we may never know. But why are fakes created?

An apparent common reason is personal gain. The supernatural and paranormal are popular subjects among many, and we are unfortunately very susceptible to a good piece of evidence. A good fake video can generate fame and sometimes even fortune, if it’s well done. A large stage has been created for such videos, YouTube.

A well-known example of this is the tunnel creature footage, posted by a water utilities company on YouTube, and has also been used for popular creepypasta, “The Rake”. The video shows CCTV footage of a “reptilian creature peering out with luminous eyes and large forearms before fleeing, revealing a long tail” which was supposedly captured by sewer engineers on a routine survey. I won’t go much into the details of what I think after studying this video, I’ll save that for a later blog. The video was later revealed as fake, an Aprils fool’s joke, but most importantly, a marketing scheme. Using the power of our genuine interest to generate views.

Another example that comes to mind is a famous picture of the Loch Ness Monster, well, just its hump actually. It was taken by a boat tour guide in August 2010, and was swiftly dubbed “the most convincing Loch Ness Monster photo ever”. The cameraman later came forward and admitted that it was a hoax, created using a simple inanimate fibre glass hump, and was created “just for a laugh”. Although no known fortune was gained from this, the picture is known amongst the best Nessie fakes.

Whatever the reason to create fake material is, it’s going to make our jobs a lot harder in discovering the truth. There are so many ways to create this fake material using a combination of modern day technology and other methods that have been around for an age. A person adorning a convincing costume has been used successfully many a time, and Photoshop adds a powerful tool to be used to manipulate and alter. Some are not even created intentionally, but are equally deceiving when used wrongly. A lens flare or an object captured in the wrong lighting can be surprisingly convincing. There is even an App to superimpose ghostly and demonic figures into your everyday photos and selfies. There really is an App for everything! Do not despair however, study each piece of evidence with an open mind and decide for yourself.

In conclusion to this, there are many ways to create a fake piece of the paranormal or supernatural, to play with our beliefs and our search for the truth, or just for personal gain. One golden rule when it comes to analysing evidence is if it’s too good to be true, it normally is. When applying this rule, we can quickly separate the fake from the potential, then all that is left is your personal belief. I do believe that the one real piece of evidence that we all need is out there, all that we need to do is find it.
